 About Us

Child Development Associates, Inc. (CDA)
is a community based, non-profit agency with nearly 200 employees dedicated to creating positive change in our local community. We believe that all families deserve access to quality early care, education and supportive services that will promote children’s healthy development and future success. CDA takes an active role in child care issues at the local, county and statewide level to support child, parents, and child care providers. CDA operates three state subsidized full-day preschool centers in the southern area of San Diego County, an Alternative Payment Program throughout San Diego County, and is the largest sponsor in the State of California of the Federal USDA Child Care Food Program. CDA operates three state subsidized, full-day preschool centers in South San Diego County. This preschool program provides a high-quality educational environment for children ages 3-5 to learn and grow while their parents become self-sufficient and ensures that they get the essential tools they need to be successful as they enter Kindergarten. Visit for more information. Tuition assistance is provided to income eligible families by the California Department of Education.

CDA's Alternative Payment (AP) Program provides child care reimbursement for children in San Diego County, from birth through 12 years of age to the provider of the parent's choice. This program allows eligible parents to choose the type of care they feel best meets the needs of their family. As a result, parents are able to work, look for work, or go to school. This program currently serves approximately 3,100 families and 5,800 children using over 1,650 different child care providers.
Click here for more information about the AP Program. Funding is provided through the California Department of Education and Federal Child Care and Development Block Grant Funds.

CDA's Nutrition Program is the largest sponsor in the State of California of the Federal USDA Child Care Food Program and has been serving the community since 1984. This program reimburses child care providers for the nutritious meals they serve to the children in their care. CDA currently sponsors approximately 1,250 Family Child Care Homes throughout San Diego, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Imperial Counties, and a portion of Los Angeles County. Visit for more information. This program is funded by USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) through the California Department of Education.
